I feel like I didn't even have to say this? But it's important just to make sure someone says it. Because it's inherently non-commercial it doesn't need traffic to survive, and actually increased users brings problems. But it sure is nice to have a fallback.

I mean, not to beat this drum too loudly again, but, Mastodon. It's always been there. Yes, there's clunky things about it, mostly because it's true defederation. But it's not beholden to anyone.
No one said you have to have just one social media site though. I'm on Bluesky too obvs.
