Well, clearly he's betraying his principles by "accepting that the electorate is convinced of progressive values in a single year and that he needs to compromise to continue ruling". I, on the other hand, am upset at him for a completely different reason.

Imagine the world today if people didn't assume Judaism has a long and rich history in grappling with the question of "why did God command animal sacrifices if we now feel that's wrong". It's almost as if there's a proud tradition of blending philosophy and theology among Jewish scholars!
