It's not just that I find Democrats prostrating themselves to be gross.
It makes them unsafe. Why should I, a Black queer woman, maintain any faith that these jamokes give a single shit about my material circumstances as they eulogize this horrible man.
It sucks.
Dear all writers: If you can't quote what the person you're defending actually said, maybe don't defend what he said?
It's not lost on me in the midst of this eulogizing and memorializing a monster that my home state, Florida, has made it a crime to commemorate or remember the victims of the Pulse massacre.
In America, only some deaths are considered grievable. The rest of us are just "collateral damage."
It is entirely possible to be respectful about the death of a person you disagreed with without “honoring” him by vowing to continue his disagreeable, hateful “work.”
The best way to honor Charlie's memory is to continue his work: engage with each other, across ideology, through spirited discourse. In a democracy, ideas are tested through words and good-faith debate — never through violence.
I have no idea what white people are talking about right now. The warnings that the fascists will "use this" to do more violence. WHAT WON'T THEY USE? You've watched them deploy the US military on US soil using bullshit pretexts. What even are you talking about?
