I stand in solidarity with the Starbucks workers on strike.

When a corporation can pay $96 million to its CEO for just four months of work, it can afford to pay its workers a living wage and decent benefits.

  1. I refuse to use them. Apart from it being a moral standpoint, their coffee tastes like tepid dog shite

  2. $96M for 4 months of work? Peanuts. I know a guy who has $500B, got a $26B bonus last year, and his lapdog board just approved another $1T for him. He spends most of his waking hours drugged out and he has 5-6 other side hustles.

  3. Thank you, Bernie. You’ve been standing up for Americans your entire life. I appreciate you. I hope one day we’re in a better place and you can rest. Xoxo

  5. If the general population SNAP participation in a state is between 8% and 16%, the share among Starbucks workers could be estimated roughly 1.5 to 2 times that rate due to lower wages and part-time hours, suggesting an estimated 12% to 30% of Starbucks workers might receive SNAP benefits. Perplexity

  6. Don't care for Starbucks coffee, every time I tried it, it tasted like dirt, so easy for me to stand with the workers. I've got a coffee machine & there are a ton of family/privately owned sellers of great coffee....Koffeeexpress on eBay sells Moose Munch Coffee...Choc/Peanut Butter & many others

  8. Howard Schultz is a POS. I worked in one of the busiest Starbucks in Pittsburgh back in '06/'07. One of the worst jobs I've ever had. And it's very clear the current management is no better.

  9. True prosperity is measured not by the accumulation of wealth for a few, but by the wellbeing, opportunity, and dignity of all.

  10. More power to 'em. I recently saw the power of a union and the weight that a strike has, or in my case, the weight of the threat of a strike to offset corperate leverage. I don't drink at Starbucks very often, but I'll dump all my stocks of it.

  11. I can't afford late stage capitalism yuppie juice.

    I make my own coffee.

When I worked with Citizen Action as a staff trainer we organized with Unions across USA against NAFTA and supporting Wellstone Single Payer campaign.

  12. The working class that supports a party that is against raising the minimum wage, universal health care, progressive tax rates, etc etc. kind of deserves what it gets. Hopefully they will figure this out sooner rather than later.

    I was taught to share.

The lesson stuck & I have been shareful my entire life.

THIS advent of greedy CEOs shows a lack of parenting skills & the failure to teach the children to care about others.

The (p) Resident is a prime example of this failure.

  14. Its fuckin bs cos without workers tjat zoggwit wouldnt roll in money. Yet they barely get enough to make it from one day to another.

  15. I went into a Starbucks at an airport once to get a free napkin, but that's it. That was the only time. People paying that much for coffee need to re-evaluate their lives.

  16. CEO is an antiquated position. They don't have any real skills and are just garbage figureheads that only care about appearances and facades.

  17. Boycott any corporation that rewards management with obscene--you can't even call it "pay"--but exploits the people upon whose shoulders the business makes it profits and expects the government to supplement their unlivable wages. Parasites die when they kill their hosts; let's shorten the process.

  18. Yes! Starbucks can afford to pay better wages. Walmart too. And for damn sure Amazon!!! Renting Venice for your wedding, Bezos? The gall.

  20. No fucking way I'm ever crossing a picket line.

You want a latte? There are plenty of mom and pop places to try in your neighborhood. Hell, my local farmers market was selling hot coffee this morning.

  21. Fourbucks is a classic case of excessive CEO pay. Laws need to be written to eliminate this obscenity.

  22. Is it still the CEO who flies into work in another state on his private jet? There's too much money, and then there's "fuck you" money.

  23. I don't think this takes into account that the ceo was 9000x more productive by doing things like working lunches and checks note uh, "passion"

  24. Imagine how good business would be for #Starbucks if the corporate high command agreed to cut prices by 5% to 10% across the board. The revenue increase would more than offset the pressure on profit margins.

  25. Firstly, and most important I agree with Bernie.

Secondly, unless someone else is paying, I never go to Starbucks. The coffee is too expensive and it’s not worth the price.

If you divide $96 million by 361k employees, each employee would get $266 more per year.

    4bln cups/$96m =$0.024 /cup 2.4c

Starbucks is not suppose to be a career job that is why they offer full tuition reimbursement so you can get a fucking education and get a real job.

Not Starbucks fault most people are worthless and lazy.

Tuition assistance added as employment benefit, or an increase if already provided?

  28. Te whole economics system is rigged, with far too large a slice taken by the few. Too little going to the employees. Meaning the majority of workers can't afford to pay much more for the coffee until they in turn are paid a proper wage they can then spend on things like coffee.

  29. Starbucks like Walmart and other massive corporations use our tax dollars as SNAP benefits to subsidize their shameful wages.

    Fuck Starbucks.

    Support Unions and Workers.

  32. I started my boycott 4 years ago and it is now very easy for me to walk past any Starbucks and pay half the price for better coffee and snacks. I suppose it helps that I live in Europe, and we make some pretty amazing snacks and coffee that does not come in a bucket.

  34. Are CEOs super humans? Should they get paid millions? The question should be: What is the justification for earning millions per year? There really isn't... if they screw up, are they penalized? The answer is no... so why the big bucks?

  35. Until ur last breath ull stand with workers. U r so a such good man really. The best for u

  36. As a life long union member, in the transportation industry I have always supported Unions and don’t understand what people are so opposed.

  37. Yes, they need to pay the workers. More than a medium wage. A person cannot live on messily pay.

  38. 🤝 If Marjorie, Nancy, and Lauren are REALLY defining a new socially acceptable, non-fascistic, lane for the future of the Republican party, offer them incentive to retire right NOW from congress, let the gavel go to Jeffries, then help them join Cheney/Kinzinger/Steele to run later.

  39. Many thanks, Bernie for bringing up the salary of Starbucks new CEO, Brian Niccol. Yes, he's overpaid. He also has made the work of a barista much harder with unreasonable demands. He doesn't seem to have any training in how to be a boss.

  40. This is not radical, THIS is common sense. And, of course, the same is true if all companies.

I have long believed: a company that claims it cannot pay its workers a living wage and give them full benefits is simply not a successful company, no matter what their financial statements say.

666x the wage of baristas, et al the People who's work creates the profit.

The Corporation would have no profits to pay out from without the ground floor crews of PEOPLE.

  42. Bernie. You know that large corporations have golden parachutes for their upper management. The amounts are OBSCENE!!

I am offended by folks making THAT MUCH money, while some of their employees barely make enough to survive, and may even need food assistance.

@sanders.senate.gov I'm all for increasing the minimum wage and all, but what I would love more is universal healthcare, affordable housing, and reduction in grocery bills. Still, I ain't buying anything from Starbucks until they do right by the union!

  45. What!!!! Seriously $96 million??? I never go to Starbucks, now I'll definitely never go. That's absolutely disgusting and those workers definitely deserve better!
