Heads-up: if you're someone with any history of/around suicidal ideation, I'd strongly suggest avoiding any detailed stories about the OpenAI/ChatGPT-linked suicide that's doing the rounds (the one about the teenager), especially any that have screengrabs/quotes of the chat logs.

  1. Yeah on the one hand information about what ChatGPT is doing need to be shared โ€ฆ but no one needs those screen shots right in their face

  2. Don't demonize the folks trying to use AI for help. Maybe direct them towards other possibilities, if there are options where they live. People are reaching out to these things because they are desperate and don't know where to go.

  3. But also know someone's ideation triggers may be different, and acknowledge that yeah, shit can be scary as fuck right now and it's hard to find help. People need more than a suicide help line, and MANY communities do NOT have access to proper help.

  4. It does make me worry that I've unintentionally exposed people to something so detailed despite adding trigger warnings. I deleted the detailed reshares upon seeing this (20 minutes after me resharing).
