  1. NYT reporting today that the admin. is planning to use the U.S. military ag/ cartels. This has actually been in the works for awhile as I argued in this Foreign Affairs piece from April.

It's part of what I see as an effort to politicize the military and transform it into a partisan force. 1/

  2. “You may get a medical transport helicopter unable to land because someone is getting a Starbucks cup of coffee from a drone”

The FAA will now let commercial drones fly beyond the operator’s line of sight.

The move will "unleash American drone dominance," Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said.

As a result, Duffy said, " You may get a Starbucks cup of coffee from a drone."

  3. This is a very good paper on the myth.

P-hacking, failure to replicate and fraud are real problems but don't remotely represent science collapsing in on itself. The existential threat to science comes from conservatives, full stop.

Empirical data do not support the conclusion of a crisis of public trust in science. They do support the conclusion of a crisis of conservative trust in science: polls show that American attitudes tow...

  4. I watched coverage of Katrina for days.

This is not that footage. This is the video people took from their homes, from the Superdome, as firefighters who brought a camera to their operational base when they figured something wild might happen.

Even if you know what happened, it’s shocking.

  5. Didn’t know a/b this Katrina documentary before seeing this post. Watching now.

It’s going on the fall Politics of Disaster syllabus.

Honestly, I think everyone in the US should watch it, sit with it, and ask themselves if they are prepared to let this happen again.

    That’s where we’re headed.

if you want to have a nice and relaxing sunday, do not watch the new Hulu documentary on Hurricane Katrina. if you want to shake with rage and anger over the total failure of this nation's government and media establishment, watch the Hulu documentary on Katrina (this is a recommendation)

  6. Now that aerial footage of Gaza filmed by ITV (linked below) & WashPo is out, along with images of emaciated hostages (who are starving b/c Israel is starving everyone in Gaza), Netanyahu has apparently decided to fully occupy Gaza & informed the IDF Chief of Staff to resign if he doesn't like it.

  7. I was stunned when my students noted that they loved podcasts on the material I had assigned, b/c they understood the it better if they listened (esp. a convo-with-author format) instead of reading text. They didn't dislike the work itself & they could conceptually get it, reading was just too much.

  8. There are entire fields of practice dedicated to different approaches to justice & none of them would place blame solely on him.

The bigger question is how to pursue justice, b/c "killing a domestic gov't agency that kept people alive" isn't how people tend to think about crimes against humanity.
