It’s certainly on its way there as an illiberal authoritarian state. Maybe that’s why Trump loves Orban. The US is a little further along as it has reached the concentration camp and forced deportation stage. Perhaps if the US had been part of a stronger international union it might not be as far.

Even if the teacher is wrong?
There are better ways for a teacher to handle such a situation - from the starting point of belittling the student to the student answering back, particularly as the student raises an important, valid point. Sending them to the Principal would also be overkill.
