I genuinely do NOT understand the idiocy of having Putin proxies on TV News, like Sergei Markov just now screaming Russian propaganda on Sky News for ten minutes.

We are at war with Russia. When before has UK media ever platformed enemy states who attack our allies and poison people in our streets?

  1. Am I mistaken or is Putin being "accepted back on the national stage" not in the gift of journalists to give. If they cannot resist covering it as a story, they can, at least refer to the meeting as NOT a step back to international acceptance.

  2. Yeah, but they had three empty dead hours to fill... Plenty of BS spoken by UK commentators. Especially that Scot who hasn't got a clue.

  3. In our age of moral relativism the media often adopt these absurd notions of balance. But the truth is sometimes there really are good guys and bad guys.

  4. Sky is part of Murdochs media, he has no loyalty to any country or person. There are far too many people like that operating in our political sphere, shaping public opinion.

  5. I used to enjoy watching Anna Botting on Sky papers. She used to be balanced & compassionate. The last 2 wks she has castigated Lab over private school closures bc of VAT(2023-79 closed,2025-29 closed).Non doms leaving.NOT She said we were maybe to "gentle" on migrants & shld look to what Trump doing!

  6. We are not at war with Russia, Russia bought the UK Govt over a decade ago via the Tories through Johnson et al, and still owns it, it owns London known as Londonistan, the dirty money laundromat. England sold any principles it had long ago to the money men, now it just does as it is told to.

  7. The same goes for Isreali ' spokesmen. Maybe be tougher reporters and a cut off mike switch. Ask a tough question and repeat until answered. Heard a russion yesterday get away with saying Ukraine was not a democracy. No comeback from the interviewer.

  8. This is what you get when the leaders of the West are a group of individuals lacking in morals and a backbone. You only have to look at the heavy brown nosing of Trump, all obsequious and sycophantic, shamelessly stroking the ego of a man who holds them in contempt ! The media is no different.

  9. Back in the 1930s the Mail and Express for two (not to mention certain members of the Royal family) platformed Hitler......

  10. Because we are a weak, captured state. The existence of (K)GB News illustrates that, as do the kleptocratic water industry, and public procurement set-up.

  11. Who fkn cares what their "side" of the argument is - unless, of course, you are trying to cause the breakdown of consensus in support of Ukraine among our population.

  12. This whole sorry story would not have happened if Madeleine Albright et al had not engineered a coup in Ukraine to remove the democratically elected government and replace it with a mob of fascist thugs who proceeded to shell the Don Bas.

  13. Alex it is no different from Trump fans given airtime to 'explain' why what he just posted on Truth Social is just what the world needs. Or the "spokespeople" for the IDF trying to gaslight.

I have given up hoping that the BBC, ITN or Sky News might use journalist that they pay to report on things

  14. You'd be forgiven for thinking you were watching a re-run of Whoops Apocalypse from 1982.

No media outlet in the UK should be giving Putin a platform to spout warmongering bollocks

  15. Exactly this. WW3 has started. It's not a tanks planes and guns war but every bit as dangerous. Russia is attacking and undermining western democracy at every level. Brexit Trump and the rise of fascists have all undermined the ability of the west to fight back. Wake up.

  16. It is shameful, they should be investigated not platformed, but you would need real journalists for that

  17. UK national interests are opposed to Russia’s, but Murdoch is an oligarch just like his Russian counterparts - they have more in common with each other than they do with us.

  18. Two politicians are arguing. One says, "You're lying!"

The other says, "Yes, I am, but hear me out."

I'm old enough to remember when that was a West Wing joke.

    Happy, innocent days.

  19. Steady on, Alex

We - the UK - is not at war with Russia They are taking aggressive actions like sending military planes and boats into our proximity, hacking our companies and poisoning the odd Russian in our care - but we are not at war

  20. The BBC & SKY were champions of Brexit...a project to weaken the UK, isolated it from the EU and to weaken a NATO and UN Security Council member. Plenty of Brexiteers were, and still are, platformed every day.

Who do you reckon funded the Brexit campaigns?

  21. Murdoch will broadcast or publish any dangerous shit so long as he gets paid enough. That's the only reason, nothing to do with politics and everything to do with war and hatred making money. The other media companies are playing catch-up on that old bastard.

Your reps and GOP leaders can be reached 202-224-3121

Tell them to remove Trump by impeachment/treason charges

  24. I always now assume TV and radio news outlets are selling entertainment instead of news. Got sucked into the attention economy and forget why they're important.

  25. This might classify me as part of the problem of not being reached by tv news (as discussed on many a podcast) but this is because I now classify tv news as dogsh*t. How on earth these people are booked, is beyond me. But I lost faith in the broadcasters yonks ago. Sorry.

  26. Today I spent several minutes nodding agreement with Mark Serwotka during Radio 4 “Any Questions” while he spoke about Ukraine.

He then immediately responded to a question about defence spending by claiming that the UK was not under attack.

Even some of the good guys are too dumb to see.

  27. For all the reply guys saying "But Alex, we are not at war with Russia":

July 2025 UK Strategic Defence Review (SDR) calls Russia an ‘immediate and pressing threat’ to British national security.

Our media should not be platforming our enemy.

Russia: an immediate and pressing threat. Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine makes unequivocally clear its willingness to use force to achieve its goals, as well as its intent to re-establish spheres of influence in its near-abroad and disrupt the international order to the UK and its allies’ disadvantage
