  1. The chief problem is that the opposition party is acting that way. As long as that's true, and as long as most people's daily lives look basically the same to them, there's nothing Trump can do that's "too far." He can go on tv and declare himself dictator for life

A major obstacle for folks attempting to defend democracy is that a perfectly accurate description of what Trump is attempting sounds like hysterical conspiracy theorizing to a lot of people. We default to “c’mon, that can’t happen here”—which is exactly why it can.

According to Brown University’s Cost of War Project, “The war in Gaza has, since October 7, 2023, killed more journalists than the U.S. Civil War, World Wars I and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War (including the conflicts in Cambodia and Laos), the wars in Yugoslavia in the 1990s and 2000s, and the post-9/11 war in Afghanistan, combined.”

Four journalists were killed by an Israeli strike on a Gaza hospital today, including Mariam Dagga, a freelancer with the @apnews.com. She has a 12-year-old son, who was evacuated from Gaza earlier in the war.

She was a true hero, like all of our Palestinian colleagues in Gaza. tinyurl.com/3cn5c9vb

  3. There are caveats to this (I’ll get to them) but it feels like a lot of people and institutions who’ve had to confront what to do in the face of illegal and unconstitutional orders have functionally decided that Trump is the embodiment of, and therefore cannot, violate the constitution.

  4. Trump's Presidencies have so far involved numerous Saturday Night Massacres, dozens of Watergates, and a never ending parade of Tea Pot Dome scandals. I worry that we're about to enter the "dozens of Kent State's" portion of the story.

When Rosa asked about his wife’s medical care, the agent cited HIPAA laws as a barrier to knowing her health issues. Taken aback, Rosa pointed out that doctors can share medical information with law enforcement when a patient is in custody, which is specifically outlined in HIPAA.

“He said a very disgusting joke after that,” Rosa recalled.

“He said, ‘We’ll notify next of kin if she dies.’ And at that moment, I knew that I was no longer dealing with humans.”

“I knew I was dealing with someone that is sick in the head, and this was the person who made the decision to incarcerate her,” Rosa said.

“Jimenez Rosa, a legal permanent resident and mother of four U.S. citizens, was detained over what her lawyer believes was a decades-old, personal-use marijuana charge, which is no longer a crime in Massachusetts today… “I was just like, ‘Girls, we might never see your mother again in this country’”

Federal authorities refused to tell the Canton woman's husband or lawyer on what grounds she was being detained until shortly before her release.

  6. Orlando has a Democratic mayor and a Democratic city council. Why are they allowing the Orlando Police Department to participate in this?

A Florida Department of Transportation crew early Sunday painted the Pulse crosswalk back to black and white for a second time as supporters continued to try to restore the rainbow-colored crossing. Now, police agencies are monitoring the site.

A squad of Florida Highway Patrol and Orlando Police Department officers surveilled the dozen people who were using chalk on the rainbow crosswalk on Sunday. Advocates said it was an intimidation t…
