...of course the place where guns are available will have the most gun deaths. that's a meaningless statistic that says nothing useful!
A meaningful question would be "does the presence of a gun increase or decrease violence overall."
I'd go with gun ownership vs. mass killings. Violence in general as a statistic is a bit all over the place because of so many factors.
Mass killings is a useful and meaningful statistic.
