Now this lying POS, who spent the entire pandemic being wrong about everything and pretending he was being silenced when he was called on his bullshit, has been given a job he is unqualified for. And he is vandalizing US biomed science for revenge.

Like other seasonal respiratory viruses, the vaccine needs updating each year. We are still working out the rules for this, and even how much or who often they really need updating to provide protection from serious illness
But they were an unqualified success.
-
What is crucial is that DESPITE this evasion of protection from transmission with later variants the first wave of vaccine DID STILL prevent serious illness on the majority.
-
Like all respiratory viruses it undergoes antigenic drift selected for by antibodies, most likely in persistent infections IMO.
These variants then occupy the niche such selection afford them, becoming the next variant
-
They even prevented transmission to a certain extent - but we have NEVER tried to vaccinate our way out of a raging pandemic, chasing a virus adapting to the human population.

The mRNA vaccines did EXACTLY what they needed to do. Prevented vast numbers of people dying or being seriously ill with COVID19 who would otherwise gummed up hospitals necessitate further lockdowns.

“as a vaccine intended for broad public use……the platform has failed a crucial test: earning public trust”
Says the lying conspiracist new head of NIH who with his criminal antivax chums undermined that trust from the outset for financial gain.

Opinion | Jay Bhattacharya: Why the NIH is pivoting away from mRNA vaccines
As a vaccine for broad public use, mRNA technology has failed to earn the public’s trust.

Quay is a quack, a liar and a conspiracist hiding behind his expertise in an unrelated field to give a patina of plausibility to his lab leak fantasies. His thesis of genetic engineering is laughable to anyone who has ever worked with RNA viruses.

Quay is a crank. He starts for a conclusion and works backwards. As he has no idea of the actual virology his assumptions are all BS. Therefore he gets the answer he wants
