  1. All part of the GOP plan. The only math they know is that all money should flow in the direction of billionaires. It should not be used for the benefit of the bottom 90 percent, or for vaccines, research, health care, education, humanitarian aid, disaster relief, etc.

    0
  2. But Felon Trump says the tariffs are bringing in billions and the stock market keeps hitting new highs never before seen! Where is all the money going? Or to whom?

  3. A thought experiment...

$1B is $1000M. $1M would put most families in the US on solid financial footing.

$1B invested conservatively might net you about 5%/yr - or $50M.

With $100B you could lift 99,000 families out of poverty & still be raking in $50M/yr.

Every billionaire is a policy failure.

  5. Wow! That gives their choices a good, hard dose of reality. Beyond being stupid and cruel, they are extremely corrupt. I wonder who is benefitting most from building and running these prisons? Disgusting.

  6. I mean, we're assuming that they're going to keep all those people for a year...

  7. Seriously. The amount this administration is spending to deal with immigrants is probably 1000% more than it would cost to treat them humanely. Its never been about the law or justice or saving money (cough, ballroom, golf trips etc). This administration is a hateful clown circus. It x 100.

    0
  8. If you think that money is for taking care of the prisoners, you're not paying very close attention to the levels of greed and grift of this administration

    0
  9. Not to mention the majority of these people were WORKING for a LIVING, helping to harvest crops, clean hotels, mowing yards etc. so they were NOT TAKING MONEY from OUR Govt they were HELPING the economy by then SPENDING their earnings to buy food, housing etc.! Many were PAYING TAXES as well!

    1
  10. “Where’s the cruelty in providing SNAP?” asked GOP members disapprovingly. “The cruelty per dollar spent is much higher for Alligator Alcatraz, so that’s where taxpayer dollars need to go!”

  11. Arrow points at the big Diesel Generators right outside tent walls! Too close for the fuel and the Exhaust will go right into tents! Goes to ground goes into tent! Heavier than air! Confined Space Rescuer 16 years! Haz-Mat Spills or release Operator same.

  12. In a kleptocracy, corrupt politicians [or unelected CEOs like fElon Musk] enrich themselves secretly outside the rule of law, through kickbacks, bribes, and special favors from lobbyists and corporations, or they simply direct state funds to themselves and their associates. (Wikipedia)

    1
  13. It’s all about the grift. The money is going in pockets not in the concentration camps. They don’t care about the people.

    0
  14. I don’t even get $150,000 worth of benefits in 10 years! Are they eating filets and shitting in gold toilets

    0
  15. Vote these worthless, lying Republican bastards out. Only way this Democracy survives these fascists is if we the people vote their corrupt asses OUT!

    0
  16. In cases like this the back door is key to unlocking why it exists in the first place. Recall Governors of Fla and Texas were first in trafficking migrants. Now they are first in concentration camps in not locations to build anything.

    0
  17. Because it's about your taxes going into private funds, not about stopping immigration. So they maximize the taxes that are spent on this, so the people that own those facilities make more money. Americans will get poorer from immigrants being locked up, instead of working.

  18. Shelter animals in America are treated better than those going w/o adequate food, beds, daily showers/changes of clothing, medication, etc. in overcrowded cells. Keeping lights on 24/7 to keep detainees sleep deprived is torture. The Trump Administration is all about cruelty, power and control.

    0
  19. You forgot to add in the taxes that were paid by those now incarcerated. Never mind that the situation is illegal

    0
  20. The simple solution to the conundrum is that people won't be getting held there for an entire year, and that there's a "final solution" to the economic problem of overcrowding that the MAGAts aren't talking about.

And yes, I do know the historical context of that phrasing.

  21. Wait till you find out their buddies own all the concentration camps so they're actually fine with it because it's not to "take care of migrants," it's to make their buddies rich as they maximize profits by barely keeping detainees alive. Private prisons are a disgrace and a tarnish on our nation.

  22. Trumps family and friends don’t profit off another way they do imprisoning human being. Dog kennels are very profitable for heartless scumbag bigots

  23. It's not about saving money. It's about rampant racism, hatred of poor people, who they believe are not white so are undeserving of help. The only people the Republican Party wants in these United States of Trump are rich, white men. They hate women too and want us to be property again.

  24. Someone else pointed out that we would save a great deal of money if we would let these law abiding immigrants continue to work at their jobs and pay taxes, instead of spending millions on untrained Ice officers who are rounding them up indiscriminately and putting them in expensive prisons.

    0
  25. What is not factored into the equation is the cost of beefing up ICE to provide ready troops for when the coup comes.

    0
  26. Right,

Can't feed our children or provide homes for our VETERAN'S..... but they have BILLIONS to pay for PRISONS & UGLY ballrooms NOBODY asked for....& what the hell happened to the ROSE GARDEN⁉️🤯👹

Stop wasting our money on your BULLSHIT⁉️💙🌊⚖😱

    #justicematters #dueprosessmatters #NOKINGS EVER⁉️😉

  27. After a $ 5 million dollar donation( or bribe) Trump put on hold a plan put in place by President Biden which would have saved more than a Billion dollars for Bandages which cost Medicare over $ 11,000 per square inch. Now that is why he bankrupted six casinos. Real mental genius.

    0
  28. That’s 150k per person going to the owners of the private prison company that runs it. The 2.2k has no short term financial benefits for any of trumps creditors. The fact that tax dollars pay for both should really generate more public outcry than it does. Americans don’t care about their taxes.

    1
  29. I think 450 million was the cost of the facility, which lasts for more than a year. They'll make the money back with slave labor over the years.

  30. When has that EVER not been everything Republicanism ( conservatism) is about? They spread propaganda about fiscal responsibility then run up the national debt to benefit their sugar daddies/mommies knowing that people who vote Republican are either A) complicit or B) clueless.

    0
  31. That could have paid for all the guillotines needed to rid the world of all the religious animals & their sects who have killed in the name of their religion.

  32. Welfare is always cheaper than enforcement, everywhere its ever been tried. Media pearl clutching promotes the nazis, just for profits for elites, everywhere it gets its way, will we learn in time?

    0
  33. Why aren't they being put up in hotels with clean sheets and a place to eat AT THOSE RATES??? MOST ARE NOT CRIMINALS! MOST HAVE STILL NOT BEEN CHARGED!! Everything this 🍊🤡 does or says is BS!!

    2
  34. Most Americans make less than that and survive. Seems like maybe some money is not being used appropriately…

    0
  35. Guess what? They aren’t expecting the detainees to be there that long so the cost of a year is irrelevant. And if you aren’t feeding them or providing healthcare, its cheap. Sadly, they expect these people to be deported or dead long before that.

    0
  36. letting in added 50 mil undoc ppl who work for nothing over 20 years wrecks workers wages. enforcing immigration is a totally normal thing . every country does. in US progressives think they are entitled to a world where nothing bad happens. that just makes problems worse

    0
  37. You'd think for that much money, those detainees would at least be enjoying the same luxury as Ghislane Maxwell at Club Fed. Instead, they're trapped in cages and being fed maggots.

Where is all that money going?

    3
  38. Prison culture is an American made INDUSTRY.

Privatizing encourages prisons to keep people in for no reason.

Guess who got the most people in jail for minor infractions?!

A single parking ticket can spiral into jail time!

It's insane this is a thing.

This country is twisted beyond repair.

  39. Is Serco involved? They ran a similar system in the UK, using tax payers money, deliberately overcharging the Conservative government to house people in hotels. Unsurprisingly, a Tory MP had a relative in Serco. Thankfully, Conservatives were voted out in 2024, the UK uses paper votes not computers.

  40. The difference: American Auschwitz is a for-profit prison. RepubliKKKans are funneling money into their own pockets. It costs 150,000 USD/detainee for ⑤ reasons: ① waste ② fraud ③ fraud ④ fraud ⑤ abuse (mental, physical, emotional)

  41. Call to action: Reasonable people rise and protect themselves and others from treacherous individuals & groups who wreak demonstrable harm.

  42. Yes, but #TacoPedo can't get any #kickbacks from SNAP like he can from those Concentration Camp CEO's. Trump is going to be getting a LOT of OUR tax money back from them.

    0
  43. No, we are saying the woman/man who makes $1500 in snap benefits, abuses the system, and has no interest in actually providing value to the rest of their society should be held accountable. There is a difference between working and not being able to make it, and blowing off work and milking SNAP

    1
  44. Americans must understand that this evil administration goal is just to profit as much a possible... The amount of money it is spending on mass deportation of immigrants could be used to legalize them instead, bust racism and hate are their moral values...!

    0
  45. When it gets too expensive the death toll will rise further and war economy will start (see again the model of today’s US fascism Germany 1933)

    0
  46. Makes me sick. MAGA math is barely 2nd grade level. Logic? They have none. Their justification is exclusively about how much pain and death can they exert.

    0
  47. But science, medicine, education, the environment, FEMA, public television & radio, medicaid, other social programs, etcetera etcetera etcetera is a waste of American taxpayers hard earned money…. Right.

FTD & his regime of corrupt SOBs!!!!!

    1
  48. This is a clear-cut example of how privatization has been used by the billionaire class and their millionaire minions to override the public service needs of the people for excess profits.

    1
  49. That’s an awful cost. Looks like no one cared. Normal prison cost are no where near the massive funds being passed out to ICE who doesn’t meet requirements. This is way to dump government money to support people who will fed money back to R-GOP candidates. Corruption!

    0
  50. And wouldn't it be so much cheaper, and sooo much better for the economy and our wellbeing if those people were allowed to go home and work and live in peace and contribute to our collective existence?

  52. MIAMI (AP) — A federal judge on Thursday ordered a two-week halt to construction at an immigrant detention center in the Florida Everglades dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz” as she considers whether it violates environmental laws.

    0
  53. Yeah, but now the $2256 doesn’t go to people that need it and the $150,000 is going to people who don’t need it. Cruelty is the point.

    0
  54. I have a feeling that Trump and Co are skimming a lot of money off the top at the Alligator Alcatraz. Why else would a tent city cost so much? Why else build it in Florida, a state that always has a stink of corruption in politics from the Senator to the Governors wife.

    1
  55. That's what my mom would call fraud and imbenitration. Imbezzelment. Imprisonment is a quantity of 4x the acquisition on terms of employment or dismemberment.

    0
  56. If it made somebody's life better, it would be too expensive. If it dehumanises someone then cost is no object.

    0
  57. Robbing Peter to put Paul in an expensive and inhumane concentration camp. Doesn't exactly roll of the tongue.

    0
  58. Hey. Get used to it. I think Trump failed math. If you make too much of a fuss, they may ban teaching math in school on account that it's insurrectionist.

  59. Meanwhile Florida has over 2 million SNAP recipients who are getting their benefits cut in order pay for 3,000 tax paying migrants imprisoned in a concentration camp… because self hating Stephen Miller has fantasies of being the modern Goebbles

    1
  60. Could it be the prisoner doesn't really cost that much? That it is a lie and instead they are pocketing the extra cash???

    0
  61. This is 2025, I’ve been complaining about this since at least 2004. Welcome to the bandwagon I have room for you in the back.

    0
  62. This administration’s math calculations have a lot to be desired. They are all wrong!

    0
  63. ...and this is where the media needs to confront Trump HEAD-ON and point out these FACTS! WORD FOR WORD! IN A PUBLIC SETTING! Not that he'd care, but someone needs to stop him, Noem, Vance, Miller, Johnson, etc. - and it needs to be done now.

    1
  64. The difference is that the friends of the regime get the money and build their wealth. The $2200 is for people who they treat as peasants and slaves to these folks. America is a declining country with no democracy, no freedom and NO Heart! Never will see a great country falls into decay.

  65. They could have paid tuition for all of them to go to the University of California, paid them a stipend, and bought them medical insurance.

    3
  66. This is an obscenity. Marjorie Stoneman Douglas (author of River of Grass) who spent almost her entire life trying to save the Everglades from man is rolling over in her grave.

    0
  67. Never forget that they aren’t keeping those same people there year after year. They will ship them off to foreign torture holes or labor camps as quickly as they can churn them through so the next batch can be brought in.

    0
  68. How much are we paying private contractors involved with the holding facilities? How many of them are connected to repubs?

    0
  69. The MAGA Supreme Court sanctions Trump’s illegality and all this corruption. Trump is stealing all our taxpayer dollars to pay these corrupt contractors. Trump fires low paid government employees to pay these contractors more than 10 times more money which is WASTEFUL SPENDING. WTF.

    0
  70. So, now we can't take care of our own people...they tell yeah there are all these illegal people in these programs...They get them out...Now no money for our own citizens...

  71. The prison industry is a continuation of free labor/slavery for the elite capitalist class. Oligarchs needs free labor /exploitation of workers to remain on top.
