I want to point people to a book about the current political moment, but also it's been less than two months since Skirmetti and I don't really know what to recommend anymore.
Not really sure who would have a good answer to this question.
@susanstryker.bsky.social anything on your radar?

Sadly, no. As you note, events are fast and publishing is slow, academic publishing even more so. The pace and extent of change is breathtaking right now. Publishing is waaay behind. All the best analysis I see is in online journalism and commentary.

@floralashes.bsky.social, any good intro books you’ve seen that take into account some of the latest nonsense?

Not a book and not comprehensive in re the politics of the last few years, but SPLC's CAPTAIN report is pretty good in re the development and proliferation of anti-LGBT pseudoscience, which is a pretty significant component of what's going on.

It's frustrating because I know for a fact that there are cis people who will read this, see a bunch of articles, and scroll right past it.
Especially when you're reccing for baby readers, you don't get very far if you can't convince them they're reading an Important and Reputable source.
