At the risk of engaging with the discourse, while I don't disagree necessarily, I also think it makes a fascist gerontocracy of immortal demigods almost inevitable, which I think is bad.
I personally think particular clades of immortals with designs of absolute rule would find them dashed upon the rocks of messy reality - I also think that following the fear to its conclusion would require you to disavow like, triple bypasses and stroke care as tools of incipient gerontocracy.
