for me, hearing meta talk about these problems is disconcerting not because meta should be trying to solve them (that would likely be much worse), but because from meta's perspective this cognitively impaired guy who died trying to visit a chatbot was an ai success story until he died.

yeah, it's not an argument for prohibition, it's more just an observation that we have many rolling social crises that are viewed as an opportunity to sell ai chatbots, which will have predictable negative outcomes that we will collectively have to figure out how to mitigate, much like tv.
