Interestingly I think a chunk of Dahl’s kids books are possibly not long for this world - certainly lots of the signature stuff like Charlie were creaking when I was young so I’m surprised they’ve lasted this long - but the recent Netflix adaptations of his semi adult stuff definitely have legs
The Rupert Friend one, The Swan, was wonderfully mid century darkness.

But I think the point of Charlie has always been that it's subversive. Wonka is so clearly a bad guy and yet people love and defend him. It's a genuine work of art.
