  1. What a truly awesome detail! Very cool to have the Chessmen on Trek. We were lucky enough to visit the Outer Hebrides this summer and saw the real things in the Stornoway Museum. Amazing objects! Plus the extent to which they have been embraced by the islanders with many fun replicas is delightful ๐Ÿ˜€

Selection of Lewis Chessmen in a museum display. Pieces include a king, a queen, a bishop, a pawn, a warder (rook), and a knight. Some have cracks. The display is lit to place emphasis on the the cream-tinted pieces. Large scale replicas of the Lewis Chessmen in red and white stone on a chessboard outside a community center. Kings are about two feet high. Pawns are about 1 foot high. Other pieces are in between. All pieces are quite heavy! The chessboard is between grass and concrete. Label of a bottle of "Berserker Export Pale Ale" which features an image of one of the Lewis Chessmen. Bottle is brown glass. The piece is known as a "warder" and represent the traditional rook. It is biting its shield in Norse fashion! Yours truly acting foolishly alongside a large oak carving based on a king piece from the Lewis Chessmen. The timber is weathered a bit. The carving sits in a green field in front of a fence. Sky is overcast.

  2. Pleased to hear that both 'Climate Action & Sustainable Development' and 'Drama, Film & Theatre Studies' are being added to the Leaving Cert curriculum. Valuable additions.
