When the city announced a speed limit in June, haters rejoiced. But the plan had some holes.
I was a dedicated but schlubby bicycle commuter and even I could average 15 mph on flat ground easily. Give me a good hill and it's literally no effort to go 30 (or, all the effort is in braking safely). I don't understand this speed limit, unless it's some sop to old fashioned bike messengers.
For those saying e-bikes are heavy, trust me, so was I, especially with a 30 gallon backpack of grocery shopping. If I'd hit someone - and I never remotely came close - they'd have felt it. Although, so would I, which is one big difference with cars.
