I sort of love the reading lists, tbh. So much better than the ones with hundreds of references on we used to get. That said, not sure they encourage reading around in the slightest.

I do wonder whether, if people had more children in academia, the pay issue would be better. I say that very, very advisedly, and in the full knowledge that my colleagues are very understanding. But the extra costs are insane.

Only a month until people without children can tell me they’re going on holiday in September because it’s cheaper. Can’t wait!

across the board universities love to give people tasks with minimal training that they will likely dislike and possibly do badly on top of the actual work they were hired to do and can do and it is simply baffling

I think the other thing is that, if you take the M25 as London’s boundary, south to north is 40 miles. That’s a significant distance!
