I predicted something similar, except it appears Putin will attempt to convince Trump the war is basically over and they should therefore settle down and start making deals.
I think Putin will offer Trump some minor concession that looks better on paper than in real life, but which will grab Trumps attention. Otherwise, Putin risks making Trump feel he is being jerked around again. Or, Putin has calculated that Trump doesn't care if Russia offers any concessions or not.
The word Putin meant was "flailing."

I believe the only thing that will come from this is a photo opportunity that both sides will use for domestic consumption. Putin gains legitimacy and Trump gets to dominate another news cycle again.

Yes, it will be tough to convince voters to go back to a partisan system, even though the Supreme Court has given it their blessing and Republicans in other states have been flagrantly abusing the system to give them up to a dozen extra seats in the House of Representatives.
