Not really subtle with the inverted parallels between them as you flip between their POV chapters. Loved getting more Eric, who's everyone's girlfriend and mom. I just fuckin love these characters. As in the film, Brian finally exploding with anger at his dad is one of my fave moments in any story.

Mysterious Skin - Scott Heim It's good. Saw the movie long ago, felt like reading it. Beautifully written, full of affection. You can take it on its face as a narrative or kinda ingest it as a thought experiment wherein the effects of personality-mangling trauma are polarized between two entities.

Since the Newsom propaganda push ramped up, I've seen a sharp increase in open transphobia from liberals, online and off, up to and including slurs.
Talking to other trans folks, including in other parts of the country, has confirmed that a lot of us are facing this.
