think the reason why this feels both frightening and maddening, as opposed to merely the former, is that it doesn't even feel like we're in a losing battle, somehow we're engaged in a battle where most alleged good guys don't seem to care or notice what's going on, so yeah, it keeps getting worse

  1. To be upsettingly honest, looking at the US and UK from Europe it looks as if the battle and war have already been lost in them and the only open question is how bad their occupations will get.

Obvs important for people in either not to think that, but that is how it looks.

  2. I read somewhere that in dire situations most people cling to the hope that things will work out ok. Also when bad things happen in small incremental stages, people are more likely to adapt to each change without noticing the overall trend.

  3. Afraid it’s become a cliche but “The best lack all conviction, while the worst/ Are full of passionate intensity.” I return to that poem again and again.

  4. Literally heard someone shout “fuck off back to Pakistan” at an Uber driver in central Edinburgh in the middle of the day today. We’re so cooked it’s unreal.

  5. It's like a horror film. What has already happened is basically enough to enable everything worse to come. But no one is acknowledging the monster is already in the house. Everyone is still debating if the door should have been opened, whilst the number of people eaten by the shadows increases.

  6. It’s like literally stoppable if the current vast majority of the people who haven’t yet been brainwashed could just rally around a coalition of the willing prepared to call it what it is.

What the fuck are this government and the supposedly non right wing media organisations doing?

  7. Zarah Sultana anyone and this from someone who has been a Labour member since 1970, what ever happened to Harold Wilson's Labour Party.

  8. The alleged good guys have been doing very little for 15 years. We had a media once who rightly did think it was “racist to talk about immigration”. Now they all just chase clicks.

Yep stopping the Reform UK agenda is the next big battle against populism and it feels like we are even less prepared than we were for Brexit.

  10. They are coming for our lives and meanwhile, the only thing I see from Dems is money requests. It’s bonkers that the nation’s loudest critic of the administration is a dude who’s more interested in selling Make America GAVIN Again merch and fighting against LGBT & houseless folks in his home state.

  11. Flags going up in my area... I know it's a very small number making very visible signs to intimidate the silent majority but it is very unnerving and uncomfortable

  12. This is it exactly.

The people who you'd expect to be pushing back are like...

"Well, y'know. Let's not be too hasty. Maybe those guys have a point."

    Um...what?

  13. It’s slow motion Invasion of the Body Snatchers. You grow up in what you think a generally a decent, tolerant country and then find out you were completely wrong and all those decent people are really lazy/cowardly/bigots.
