  1. Here we go again indeed. It took the Tories over a decade to burn their party to the ground trying to prop up the Thatcherite consensus, and Labour are going to do the same to themselves far more quickly than that.

Nesrine has a good line on starmer: "Some of you may know him from the office: a careerist who will look you dead in the eye and tell you, the moment it becomes more convenient to take a different line, that isn’t what he said at all." www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Here we are again: constant rebooting, cruel rhetoric and crackdowns. And hurtling towards a Reform-shaped future, says Guardian columnist Nesrine Malik

  2. Maybe unpopular take but I think "during COVID" is fine! Death data show a clear acute phase from spring 2020 until spring 2022. Since then deaths have steadily trended downward and this winter fell below flu deaths. You can take COVID seriously and still talk about the worst of it in the past tense

Death rates from COVID. Rates are highest from March 2020 until Spring 2022

I will die on this hill:

it isn’t hard to say “at the height of the pandemic” or “at the start of COVID” during a podcast interview. Producers, hosts, don’t let your guests say “during COVID” like this thing is over. Correct them. Ask them to say the sentence again. This is your job.

  3. A lot of people projecting stuff on to Angela Rayner when it's as simple as: the Starmer gang didn't like her and she couldn't be reshuffled away because Deputy Leader is an elected position.
