Yeah, you can get multi split units (one outdoor unit for several indoors) or mini splits (one outdoor for one indoor).
Apparently multi-splits work out slightly more expensive, don’t think there’s much in it
-
I don't have much personal experience, but it is something that splits opinion I believe. Think hotel rooms might be a decent guide - they mostly have an A2A unit.
It can be very useful if you've got problems with damp / condensation anywhere of course!
-
You generally need one unit per (larger) room, so the cost scales roughly with the number of rooms (I think £1,500 to £2,000 per room is a rough guide). So can be pretty cheap in a flat or smaller home, a bit less so in a larger one
-
Yeah it’s a good option isn’t it. The planning changes should help too
-
It should be ok as long as you’ve got a bit of outside space… but hard to be sure without an installer to having a look. The old 1m planning rule is no more if you’re in England.
Can try our website for advice if useful! www.getaheatpump.org.uk

Oh cool I’m in the Guardian talking about how getting air con can be good for the climate, if you use it for heating in winter as well
www.theguardian.com/environment/...
Cool Britannia: the heat pumps keeping pace with the UK’s wild weather
Air-to-air systems can warm homes in winter and cool them in summer – and they’re now set to join the low-carbon grant scheme
-
should we see air to air heat pumps as the guilt-free way to get air con in summer while reducing carbon emissions overall? @nestauk.bsky.social’s @acjsissons.bsky.social gets into it in today’s Guardian www.theguardian.com/environment/...

It’s not exactly a YIMBY story but… the building at the bottom left is a listed, derelict monstrosity (from the 1730s apparently). They later found the amphitheatre, excavated half and then… had to leave the other half underground
-
Are you familiar with Chester’s half-ampitheatre?
