  1. This sale is a great opportunity to try out new-to-you authors, series, or genres. I just picked up an armload of books, some of which I've had my eye on for months and some of which I'd never heard of before. I'm excited to see which ones become new favorites!

  2. I finished reading THE IRON BELOW REMEMBERS by @sharangbiswas.bsky.social two weeks ago & I am still a bit dazzled by its originality. We talk about writing the weird books that AI could never possibly produce and this will be my first example from now on.

  3. I'm reading The Saint of Bright Doors by @vajra.me and I haven't felt this way about fiction in years. Studying literature and creative writing can be a double edged sword because it makes it harder to lose yourself in what you're reading because you're also analysing but not with this awesome book

  5. I highly recommend this book, see also @niiyokamigaabaw.bsky.social - www.societyandspace.org/articles/the...

There's this book called "Colonialism and the Emergence of Science Fiction" that I've been giving away a lot of late, it helped me with the history of why this is so deeply embedded in this genre. Conflation of space and westward expansion is a big taproot. And it's very 'air we breath' to some.

That said. I'm a little bit stunned that Shingai Njeri Kagunda's "We Who Will Not Die" didnt make the shortlist. I think its one of the best stories published anywhere last year and has been damn near criminally underappreciated so far.
