So, a whole lot of DC— e.g. Rhode Island Ave— is very non-white, with a large immigrant population, so please understand what you're asking of people when you suggest they assert their rights to gun-toting cops and feds.

I’m very curious what the point of the ID check was and why Real ID wasn’t sufficient. People often think Real ID is proof of citizenship but it’s not. Non-citizens like permanent residents can get a Real ID. Was that the purpose of the check? Did the person have their passport or passport card too?
