Before we even get to the transition: How will the next federal election go?

Under the Trump admin’s current view of the “protective principle,” it’s not hard to imagine military forces being deployed to polling places under the guise of “protecting” the administration of a federal election.

  1. We're neck-deep in constitutional crises coming from all directions. Regarding deploying federal troops for federal elections - aren't elections exclusively the domain of states & Congress per the Constitution? Gov. Newsom said Donald's at war with America. He's right. youtu.be/6Qp5AZZ-N2A

  2. So, have 2 people w/ camera at each polling place. If pulled from line by uniform, be polite and soak up their time and attention. Arrange to vote by mail if guy at polling place w/ gun you can see bothers you more than guy in grocery checkout w/ gun you can't see. Rights don't exercise themselves.

  3. Here, @annabower.bsky.social cial highlights something that most people have not yet thought about. But this is quasi-guaranteed to take place before the next congressional and presidential elections. Wake up, people!

  4. He'll try and order the military to literally watch how people vote and "correct" them if they vote for any non-Republicans

  5. honestly I'm still waiting for how the LaMonica McIver case shakes out

actual dem house member criminally charged by Trump's defence attorney and we all apparently stopped talking about it

  6. Vote Blue in numbers too large to ignore. Close elections are ripe for GOP manipulation. Here in Texas, Trump is pissing off more and more Trumpers by ignoring inflation. High prices are why they voted for him. (Sadly, racism was a close second.)

  7. Can the state governors order the national guard to guard voting sites? Can Democrats go vote and then mass around voting sites to protect other voters? Peacefully singing “America the Beautiful”? There are more of us. I would donate my day. Also this should be a NATIONAL STRIKE DAY!!!!

  8. I have no doubt that will happen. And probably forcing people to leave the queues because ‘too many people are gathered right now, and it’s a risk’.

  9. Okay, and what are those troops going to do? Currently the deployed soldiers aren't actually fighting crime or subduing local government or anything to advance the admin's goals. They just patrol a little bit and feature in some unhappy recordings.

  10. I honestly think this might lead to the balkanization of the US. I'm not sure there's ever been a real recovery from an epistemic crisis like what we're living in that didn't ultimately lead there, even if just for some time. Like obviously no one is going to tolerate it if they very clearly

  11. Thank you, Anna. I have been asking this question for months. He could make any number of EO's just before the election. And people have rightly pointed out that it's not even about actually implementing them. Just creating chaos would be enough. "Confiscating all mail in ballots" also came to mind.

  12. We shouldn't cynically be saying "if they allow elections" because all they have to do is put together the most shoddy finger-on-the scale elections to paint the left as paranoid loons so normies can act like nothing is wrong

  13. Could it be possible that Trump is amassing troops in DC before Congress returns in September to shut down the Capitol?? He will declare martial law based on some bogus reason, possibly protests

  14. It will not be a secure free & fair election. Unless we deal with a flaming heap of horrific bullshit we're dealing with now. They won't allow it. That's what we had confirmed today. Bottom line, it doesn't matter. When his time is up, he comes out or we go in. If anyone not free & fairly elected
