What is the alternative? Each individual must be able to refer to itself somehow. Arbitrarily demand it refer to "One" and we refer to it by a proper noun like "GPT" or "Robot"? No one serious thinks Alexa or Siri are intelligent. We anthropomorphize dogs and Roombas. This is nothing new or unusual.

Russia as a country is a historical response to Mongol and Tartar aggression that drove the squabbling Rus tribes to unite under a monarchy specifically to prevent their own colonization.
It seems to have left a permanent mark in the national psyche and is mirrored in their policies to this day.
