30% of self identified Latinos at the time voted for prop 187. Yes, it created a new political consciousness among Latinos, but the swing away from Republicans was mostly from White people becoming more liberal.

Talk to any Mexican old timers, from east LA, from the RGV, from the fields of Bakersfield. They remember the INS raids of the 60s and 70s. Getting yelled at for speaking Spanish. Fast forward to today and their grandkids thought they were on the MAGA team cuz Dana White said so. Good reminder.
