I can only speak personally, but I've pretty much given up on shopping online for anything but clothes (because I'm 6'6 - so going to clothes shops just results in me being disappointed and short-sleeved). Amazon is flooded with cheap crap and I've found a lot of joy in walking to the shops.
I do live in London though, so the streets still feel pretty lively and pleasant. My home town is dead as fuck. I was back there the other week and suggested walking into town, my brother simply said "why? There's nothing there." He's not wrong. Unless you love vaping.

Maybe inevitable enshittification online could help some sort of revival on the streets? There is a growing sense of “what have we lost?” but I’m aware that might not be majority view.
I was in my old hometown inthe tun up to Christmas and I was staggered at how quiet it was.
