This is not caused primarily by "screen time".

It's been caused by the mass eradication of third places for young people in basically every city over the past three decades - and a society that's hostile to the concept of teens socialising in public spaces.

I debate this as someone who has a teen and early 20 year old. They grew up entirely differently to me and had a constant stream of on demand entertainment bombarding them. They went to dance/drama classes etc but both have very high levels of anxiety. I do think screens have a big role to play

  1. It’s not screens in isolation but I think people are really misunderstanding the impact devices & apps that are designed to be addictive are having. This isn’t me being old “in my day” but I can see the visible differences because screens are ubiquitous. It’s not the sole problem but is part of it
