Many countries, including my native Finland, have already been forced to do that.
Obviously rewarding Russia and letting it off the hook every time hasn't worked.

I don't know what they meant by the American government being too large or complex to be taken over by fascists.
All they had to do was win in a handful of swing states and they got access everywhere. Most people and institutions fell in line quickly.
Six months later, the takeover was completed.
