  1. You were mean to us and accused us of slaughtering our subject population of conquered helots, so we could build hotels and restaurants over their graves. That made us so sad that now we’re doing it, and this is your fault.

Melanie Phillips @ @MelanieLatest-3h S You're waging a war of lies against us. You've already declared us a pariah nation. So we're no longer afraid to claim what is ours alone in law and history. Well done world.

  2. Ten years ago! Jim is talking about Tories it’s okay for him to criticise, but it’s what made both the centrists and the right flame-grill their brains, because the problem here has been elite radicalisation and an incredible amount of it online, due to being told to fuck off on Twitter dot com

This sounds glib but "prominent people being mocked online and hating it" is suchhh a driver of so many things in media/politics right now!

  3. Again: the traditional punishment for collaboration with genocidaires is public tarring and feathering. These awful people are getting off very lightly, very lightly indeed, by just being told to fuck themselves on BlueSky dot com.

We have had 20 months of prominent people not just supporting genocide but actively "opposing the opposers" and ruining the lives of people who did and fuck all those people if they get upset because people post mean thing about them on websites that don't mattter

  4. The Sensible Centrists are trying to co-opt these riots! It’s mainstream because the political and media class have deliberately rehabilitated and adopted the politics of the National Front, as a conscious project over two decades, for their own gain. Admit it and oppose it, or we get this forever

Imagine telling tribal Tories in 2007 that they'd be in power for 14 years but 12 months after losing an election they'd be egging-on coked up racists attacking the police. They've come a long way from hugging huskies
Marie Le Conte @youngvulgarian.mar... • 1d imagine telling the columnists who wanted to send in the army on some inner-London kids in 2011 that fifteen years on they'd actually be pro-riots

Tory England feels like the ultimate example of the dog that chased the car (Brexit) only to collide extremely painfully with reality.

  5. Wasn't the first time either, Jo Cox's death was retrofitted to a narrative about how we need to be nice to each other and stop bickering on social media. This ignored the assassin was not very online and had radicalised himself the old fashioned way (e.g. big collection of Nazi literature)

  6. We’ve been here many times in multiple wars, austerity, you name it: they are always right even when they were obviously and disastrously wrong, and you are always wrong even if you predicted precisely what would happen. The iron rule is that they are important and you are not.

"Ah," said the wise journalist serenely, "but you opposed the genocide then because you merely hate genocide, whereas i oppose it now because i have calculated that it's the most pragmatic position, therefore i am more ethical than you"

Crowsa Luxemburg @quendergeer•2h S if i opposed every genocide i would lose credibility

  7. people who say "i'll never vote for party A unless they give me X, Y and Z" understand and are participating in democracy. anyone who is like "i will vote for party A under any circumstances no matter what" may as well have a king
