Whining about crime is super effective for right wing politicians because there's never going to be zero crime, so it's a good way to constantly sell total bullshit to the two dumbest groups of people in the world: republican voters and the entire media

As someone who has lived my whole adult life in cities deemed “dangerous”—NYC, NOLA, and SF—I think a lot about how dense cities require patience, calm, and tolerance in the midst of social difference, which are of course exactly the civic virtues that the right resents being told to cultivate.

The lies please a certain demographic that is eager to hear them while the mealy-mouthed triangulation appeals to no one. You will always accomplish more in politics saying something, even something abhorrent, than saying nothing.
basically the American electorate has developed antibodies to mealy-mouthed Democratic triangulation but not to outright lying, a tactic only Republicans have the chutzpah to use at the moment

The reason the far right gets traction here is clickbait/controversy/support in the media, not because the left is silent. They say shocking things and get attention. Where people like, for example, @doctornerdlove.com (check him out!) say sensible helpful things and don't get the same.

It's really weird to demand accountability from a NYC mayoral candidate for a deadly NYC shooting rather than the current NYC mayor, an ex-cop who campaigned on a "tough on crime" platform and promptly got indicted for crimes

very cool that the same chuds screaming about “unqualified DEI hires” are giving ignorant 23-year-olds the power to destroy federal agencies

I don't want to give them too much credit because Silicon Valley has shown there are a lot of true believers but I often wonder if they're just pathetic because they wholeheartedly believe in him or if they're inconceivably contemptible because he's their useful idiot and lightning rod — or both!
