My experience has been that the term is favored by Subaltern Lorax types who claim to be speaking for aggrieved Latin Americans.

I don't understand why people look at Mamdani and see anything but the beating heart of the democratic coalition. Sure there are people to win on the fringes, and it's important to pick up those votes too, but why wouldn't we want to be bold, young and cosmopolitan?
