Coined way back in 1948(!) by Norbert Wiener, the main equations describe radar-coupled anti-aircraft control loops from the war. Amazing how far the concept has come.

The thing is if you pick and something ends up being or going wrong it's your fault and that feels awful, so I get why people want to duck that risk.

The last time there was one of these the main victim was the web admin of the poor local news site that had published an article about the fault, yes the fault, in middle Jersey. They must have been absolutely drowned in traffic.
