A settlement makes sense because these shits can just keep asking for more money from VCs and somehow it just appears
It’s the “ask for forgiveness not permission” model and I bet paying to license all the stuff they pirated would have been more expensive than the amount they are settling for
Now is the time to sue AI companies for any and everything.
They can't afford the precedent of losing a civil case (or having a trial in process) while they're still trying to raise capital from the VC suckers.
Their more likely to settle now, for big sums, than ever again (when they'll be broke).

The details of the settlement aren't public yet. Extremely curious to see how much per infringed work, and how many authors are ultimately involved. Also curious if there will be pushback from the class a la Google Books
