  1. The Harvard Crimson student newspaper has been reporting on this, and disputes everything NYT has published.

I'd believe the Crimson more than NYT, given its track record of the past few years.

  2. I can't see past the paywall, but if I had to guess, part of the point of this story is undoubtedly to do damage control after the Harvard Crimson ate the Times' lunch the other day

  3. When Hitler and the Nazis gained enough votes to demand control of ministries the insisted on education where they could then eliminate any instruction that didn’t align with Nazi ideology. Trump continues to work from the Nazi playbook that was clearly the guide for the Heritage Foundation.

  4. Could it be that Trump’s vicious and relentless authoritarian assault on Harvard and Columbia is because they rejected Barron Trump’s applications? Is that why he’s at NYU? Is this a partial glimpse at how petty and dangerous this psychotic criminal is? I’m only asking questions.

  5. I'm disgusted by the media's willingness to adopt Trump's universal usage of the term "deal". We no longer have treaties or trade agreements, only "deals". We no longer have shakedowns, extortion payments, or protection money, only "deals". We no longer have bribes or payoffs, only "deals".

  6. They try to imitate New Deal? The person can only go to Harvard extension school prime the jealous thought?

  7. Trump's Non-Profit Definition

Are you a church which practices anti-Semitism and tells your congregation to vote for me? You are a non-profit!

A university teaching freedom and critical thinking? Then you are anti-Semitic and will be fined and your non-profit status ended

The White House's negotiating demand is a major effort to expand the scope of its offensive against higher education institutions.

  8. If all these elite schools banded together and pledged to ban the heritage foundation, aei, Claremont and all trump aligned think tanks from campuses, Trump would fold

  9. Where does the money then go? Is the check made out to someone in the federal government or do they just use crypto? That presidential library is gonna be the biggest one in history…

  10. Makes you think about education a little, when the most elite educated get taken down by the most corrupt .

  11. NYT could easily have used pressure, extortion, unprecedented or any other vocabulary to report the extraordinary abnormality of all of this. Instead they emphasize deal-making to please Trump.

  12. It’s very strange that the Times is normalizing the fact that the whims of the president and the far-right ideologues who staff his “crusade against top schools” have become a predicate for “deals.” This is authoritarian behavior and should be covered as such.

  13. Pfft. Not extortion—capitulation. The “elite universities” could stuck to their core ideals and decided to stand firm. They didn’t. It was a choice.

  14. I’m guessing the NYT employs a large number of grads from these elite universities. If they all come in maga indoctrinated from school, it will be easier for the paper to continue to operate from their increasingly fascist point of view. My gawd. 😬😵‍💫

  15. We're a Brown family. I'm so angry with Brown's leaders. They use fed $ to do such good in the community: Providence has A LOT of kids in need who rely on Brown's commitment to serve the community.

I let the president's office know. A great university; their decision to appease trump: gobsmacking.

  16. You have to understand that the NYT doesn't try to do neutral journalism. They are consciously taking sides in support of Trump and Rufo against universities because Sulzberger, like many oligarchs, likes to watch higher education being destroyed.

  17. The New York Times is a cess pit now. Indulging into faciaism, white nationalism, and Christian nationalism. They just waited and wanted a way to normalize their delusional sadistic fantasies.

  18. The NYT has been profiles in cowardice along with WaPo while other publications The Atlantic and Rolling Stone continue to do their job. Don’t let trump get mad at us has become their motto.

  19. I don't say this to excuse the NYT's actions, especially before the election, BUT... The pres. has repeatedly threatened to sue the Times for its coverage, and we know these aren't empty threats. This is what life under an autocrat is like. Harassment and intimidation of the press has consequences!
