Patriotic pride or anti-immigrant campaign? Why the English flag is suddenly everywhere

Today I drove from North Lincolnshire to near Epping in London and saw half a dozen flags at most. A couple on a bridge in Lincoln and 3 or 4 over the length of the A1. Haven't seen one within 5 miles of my house.
