The Washington Post published an opinion piece from one of its writers in which he writes:

"Nobody is pure in this debate, but the fact that both parties have felt the sting from gerrymandering should be an opportunity to find common ground."

I wish I was joking.

  1. It's like those big media outlets are worried of being accused of having TDS - which, btw., is a perfectly healthy and normal human reaction when one is faced with an unignorable idiot.

  2. Didn't Democrats propose to make gerrymandering illegal and all vote for it, but every single Republican voted against it?

  3. Republicans have been benefiting from gerrymandering for decades, now everyone wants to claim it's a both-sides issue because Democrats have decided to fight fire with fire? Gtfoh. They cheat & we're supposed to just keep letting them cheat I guess.

  4. You still read the Washington Post? Jesus Christ, they fucking helped elect Trump. I threw that rag in the fucking trash!

  6. It's 1934 Germany, and the Washington Post is looking for that middle ground between the NSDAP and the other political parties they just banned where both sides can be blamed and the WaPo editors can feel "objective."

  7. I can name several Blue states with independent commissions drawing the districts not requiring the state legislature to approve. Can the author name one Red state? Blue states led - Red states laughed.

  8. Apparently Sharon Tate scratched one of Charles Manson's maniac butchers with her fingernail so, obviously, there was violence on both sides.

  9. I hope you realize that they're going to do that to try and manipulate our side because they want to abuse our empathy even more. Same shit Russia has done

  10. Who's the moron that wrote this? I don't see a byline. But since it's from The Washington Post it's just garbage just like its owner

  11. democrats don’t stop before we have the majority in the house. Bipartisan politics are only a ploy at this time in the political arena.

  12. We’re sick of the gaslighting, BS, AND CAPITULATION!! Did we really expect better from the WaPo!!?? NO EFFIN NO! We the people MUST AND CAN SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY, not Congress, not the mainstream media, not the courts. Join the fight if you wanna win at MoveOn, 5calls, DCCC, 50501, Indivisible. ACT

  13. This would’ve been a reasonable comment 10+ years ago, but not now. We need to finish what they’ve started! Redistrict the hell out of every blue state to eliminate red seats. Only then will we have an opportunity to write new laws strengthening our Democracy & Constitution. Period.

  14. The former newspaper known as the WaPo went the "murder and jaywalking are both crimes, so Both Sides!" route a couple decades ago, and it's only ever gotten worse over the years. They "report", we "decide", right?

  15. "I have a vested interest in not ending gerrymandering, so I want to both-sides this issue"

  16. I’m so sick of this “both sides” BS, as if you can have unity between 2 sides when one side refuses to do/say anything in good faith. This is like the crazy kid in Season 4 of the Walking Dead who thought there could be peace and friendship between humans and walkers.

  17. Lol, they also headlined today that 'Ukraine Invaded Russia' followed by more misleading or outright lying nonsense. Bezos and the WP can go fvck a duck.

  18. Like closing arguments from the defense in a murder trial: “both parties have felt the sting…” Except one is a murderer and the victim is dead, so 🤦🏼‍♀️

  19. The two bullshit parties can shove it up their asses.

The country that they both betray regularly matters, meaning the people.

The politicians are just servants, most of whom are terrible at their jobs and need to be thrown in the trash where garbage belongs.

  20. Washington Post inadvertently using the correct phrasing in the headline because both parties will take this proposal just as seriously as Clemenceau and Lloyd George took Wilson's "peace without victory" proposal

  21. This is such bullshit and it's typical of how republican tactics are treated. They aggressively move the goalposts and then when the new "normal" is established in their advantage everyone cries "it's time to stop the the tit for tat and come together" meanwhile they got what they wanted

  22. To stop gerrymandering wars, the democratic states need to go hard right and gain about 50 seats. Then, Republicans might come to the table but not before.

  23. We HAVE to fight fire with fire. The maga Republicans in office throughout our country isn't going to nicely drop their gerrymandering crusade. So we shouldn't either. It would be better if our law would arrest the viper in the white house and his swamp rats for treason but that's wishful thinking

  24. I cancelled my WP subscription.

They sent me a survey asking what would bring me back.

I told them as long as Bezos is the owner, and they continue to soft soap & capitulate to Trumps’ Fascist takeover…

    I’ll never resubcribe.

And that Ben Bradley must be rolling over in his grave.

  25. WaPo is a mouthpiece for the CIA. Part of their duty is to hide the messes of the ruling class, which is significantly more difficult when Democrats can’t be lulled into numb acceptance of the anti-Democratic policies of the GOP.

  26. We're WAY PAST THE POINT of trying to Play Fair, or be Reasonable. No more "make nice"....CRUSH ALL REPUBLICANS IN 2026. They Surrendered our Rights, our Morals, our Laws to please a SOCIOPATH who wants to 1. Stay out of Prison 2. Be like Dictators he admires like Putin, Xi, Un, Orban.

  27. What cowards. So they take ok down some inept burglars 50 years ago. They have real dictators and Nazis to go after now, and crickets. Bezos turns out to be like jack and apple. Just weirdos with tech money

  28. This type of disingenuous bullshit is designed to try and force democrats to just accept whatever extreme measures republicans take to disenfranchise the electorate.

That’s not going to happen anymore.

  29. Fun(!) Fact: There is a 100 MILLION-strong voting bloc in this country. This bloc votes the SAME WAY in EVERY ELECTION. THEY DON'T VOTE. This is the bloc we must tap.

Run on CHANGING THREE THINGS: Healthcare for All, Fair Economy, and Fair Taxes. Dems: MAKE SOME PROMISES.

  33. Or, change the entire process of setting boundaries. After boundaries are set they become permanent. Much like the boundaries of each state and our country👽 Now there's an idea👽

  34. More validation that cancelling my WAPO subscription in 2023 was the right thing to do.

  35. There is no common ground with fascists. Period.

The repub party is a fascist party. Dems are barely better, but the repub party should be abolished. Why do we allow a party who's platform is civil destruction, stripping rights, and transferring wealth to robber barons?

  36. If we get rid of the outdated electoral college and move to a popular vote (one person-one vote) the gerrymandering problem is solved. So are many other problems.

  37. The Washington Post was my hometown newspaper. I no longer subscribe which is sad. It's not news and it's opinions are mostly right leaning now. Really sad to see how this "news" outlet has deteriorated since Bezos bought it. Really sad.

    1
  38. Welp I must have fallen for the BS, because according to the news today, "both sides have done this", and "you can't get elected in Mass if your a R for the last 20 yrs". I can believe that both sides have done this, but being a better candidate gets you elected. Also look a VA was R then D now R

  39. They need to carefully consider the results, because Republicans could end up with more seats.

    0
  40. That is a lot of words to say Democrats should just give complete control to Trump.

  41. Bad blame framing but isn’t some of the point of fighting fire with fire showing that the net partisan benefit is nil and it can therefore be abandoned in favour of neutral/independent commissions? You can’t skip straight there but I think you can take this as evidence you’ve moved the conversation.

  42. Not sure this op-ed deserves print space. When R the legacy media going to part of the solution AND NOT THE PERPETUATORS of this regime's myths?

  43. Again, Democrats are held to a higher standard as a way to excuse and protect Republicans. It's past time for people who excuse the Republicans to be held accountable for the horrors they helped create.

  44. Yeah….thats the attitude that keeps me asking America to just speed up to the 2nd Civil War and stop wasting more of the sane-world’s time.

Gerrymandering Tx is the GOP fault, and there shouldn’t be ANY debate about whether or not the Dems should ‘play fair’ in a rigged game. Idiots!!!!

  45. I’m sure they have lovely things to say about Adolph and Eva, too. Some things just don’t have both sides

  46. we could but they don't want to no matter what we do

so fuck em. yes gerrymander all the fucking things. hell i'll even do one better. blue states country, red states country. fuck the United States. It died last November and clearly, there's no going back to that.

  47. Justice Brennen, Upon Retirement, Years Ago Said That Gerrymandering Was The Most Important Threat To Democracy. Then The Supreme Court Was Bought By Oligarchs And Republican Conniving In The Senate By Mitch McConnell Helped Rig Future Results....

  48. Calling that an "opinion" piece instead of the arse-kissing piece that it really is, is an insult to the part of the US population with functioning brains.

  49. why would anyone react wapo after shitface bought it? it’s a propaganda rag for christian white supremacy, oops, i mean conservative business leaders!

  50. voting districts are not the only politically mapped things, i once worked in a school district where a middle schools lines were redrawn to get a perfect 50/50 desegregation-it included a narrow piece with the poorest white homes and a narrow strip that included the three projects, curly strips

  51. So... with Republican gerrymandering at present blocking any attempt at Democratic power sharing, our media gatekeepers would have us freeze the situation right where it is and call it a victory for both sides?

    Thanks again, guys.
