To recap: My law firm represented Black and Latino voters in striking down Texas' new congressional map.

The dissenting opinion mentions George Soros 17 times and me and my law firm 3 times (all about how connected to Soros I allegedly am). I have never seen anything like it.

  1. There are over a dozen billionaires IN TRUMP'S ADMINISTRATION, and dozens more supporting/bribing him, collectively worth hundreds of billions of dollars (maybe over a trillion). Yet, all they can talk about is one 93-yr-old dude who's worth $9B, allegedly supporting single everything Democrats do.

  3. I’d challenge his ability to rule fairly on any Trump cases as he’s totally bought in to the Trump conspiracies. Btw Putin used Soros as a whipping post in his conspiracies first, which leads me to believe Putin was Trump’s introduction to Soros.

  4. I am trying to understand gerrymander rules of the road (and arguments in court). I am in the new GA6th and was in the old one too, so really want to know…

Partisan map drawing can be drawn in many ways. The result cannot use race to be drawn. But needs the racial profile used to see if it does?

  5. Did he call anyone piggy in his dissent? His comments sound about as well-reasoned and on point as Trump's interactions with the press pool.

  6. MAGA judges exist. Alito does a better job at hiding it, but he’s basically the same way.

  7. "The salient issue of fact is whether the Legislature drew the new lines on account of race. The answer is easy: It did not."

How possibly could it, when we're the "post-racial America" of the Roberts Court? They don't believe discrimination of any class exists except white, Christian men.

  8. They are obsessed with Mr Soros. They needed a boogeyman for Orban to win his election so they chose a successful, quiet spoken Jewish Auschwitz survivor. It was the republicans strategists who worked with the IDU and Orban. It's a dog whistle to nazis.

  10. It shows his lack of intelligence in law and that his demeanor is incompatible with acting as a disinterested arbiter of the law. He is a political hack, and dumb.

  12. More evidence of how deeply the cancer that is the convict and his maga movement has truly permeated and destroyed the Republican party. I can't imagine this idiot is actually qualified to be a judge. I imagine his loyalty to Dear Leader is what guaranteed his appointment.

    1
  13. So, what boogeyman will Republicans use once Soros (who has spent less supporting Democrats in his entire life than Musk spent supporting Trump in a single election) passes?

  14. The names of this cranks clerks should be widely publicized. The whole lot of them should be forever be unemployable and subject to relentless ridicule too.

  15. What will these people ever do once poor George Soros passes away and can no longer be the object of their conspiratorial fever dreams?

  17. All expert fields have their crazy people. Some people go completely nuts after having too much pressure for too long. It sounds like that happens with judges too.

  18. The Texas racially motivated/ attempted execution of a new congressional map is no surprise given that Texas was the last state to accept (spelled FORCED TO ACCEPT) the abolition of slavery.

  19. I couldn’t evaluate the legal claims (partly because by the time I couldn’t stand any more about 6pp in, there were no concrete facts, just evaluative claims), but the aggrieved whiny tone and the professional fallacy collector style starting with ad hominems convinced me there was nothing there.

  20. Sounds like this Regan appointee should retire after confusing the law with his politics.

  21. The anti Semitism is beyond belief ..

(George Soros is NINETY FIVE years old) What ever will these jerks do when he is no longer here??

    5
  22. Again, even if you were associated with Soros, how would that in any way shape or form dictate whether or not what Texas did was a racial gerrymander?

Sounds to me like it’s time for this judge to be reviewed for overall competency

    0
  23. Well you should know where it comes from. They have been coming after you for a long time. See baby face Jack Posobiec from back in the days

    0
  24. I have a question. So what happens now. I assume that the rejection of Texas maps will get appealed and rushed up to SCOTUS. Hopefully SCOTUS rules in support of no gerrymandering. At that point the ruling will apply everywhere, including CA? Or do I have something wrong?

  25. The dissenting judge is a brainwashed MAGA whose judgment and decisions are clearly based on MAGA talking points. George Soros-give me a fkg break. We're talking abt redistricting and racism, but he's stuck on tired MAGA/GOP/QANon rhetoric. Shouldn't be on the bench if you've lost objectivity.

  26. The Reagan era was truly the worst thing that happened to this country in so many ways and this fascist fossil's appointment to the judiciary is one of them. He should be removed from office by any means necessary

    0
  27. Obviously, Trump is not the only MAGA in a powerful position who has mental deficiencies.

    0
  28. Did he by chance happen to opine on the Crow family's (Texas residents) long-standing financial support of & entanglements with Justice Thomas?

    1
  29. That the USA has a system where it is both possible, and, bizzarely, legal, to draw boundaries on a partisan basis is mind-blowing. That the creation of district maps is anything but an administrative and non-political act, and the USA thinks the opposite, is painfully moronic.

  30. Sounds like Judge Smith needs to go quietly into the ranks of the retired. He's gotta be old if appointed by Reagan. (He should probably see his doctor about an exam for dementia while he's at it.)

    1
  31. The judge is mentally ill or perhaps is suffering from dementia. Those were the rantings of a madman.

  32. As is said quite often, these are not serious people. Now we not only have 6 maga-nuts on the extreme court but they’ve spread to other benches throughout the judiciary. This is going to take a generation or two to clean up. We all have so much work to do and it’s a crying shame. Sigh.

Unbelievable- but even though I am not an attorney, my theory of the case to why he did it (besides just going crazy) he wants to get Trump’s attention so he might appoint him to a higher level- or the Supreme Court (though he’ll have to stand in line behind Aileen Cannon)

    0
  34. He needs to sit in a time out corner of his courtroom wearing a dunce cap 24/7 until he can be determined to rejoin any society again.

  35. MAGA judge in a State that teaches their kids they are the Greatest State & should have been their own country. True experience, that.

    1
  36. Insane! I never heard of him until the right started spewing that nonsense.

Even judges are susceptible to brainwashing.

    0
  37. This is sterling proof that this soft coup that the GQP is deeply involved in was started back in the Reagan years. This pos judge has been on the bench since Reagan’s time in office & sounds just like MAGA!! Interesting…

    4
  38. I rather dislike the invocation of "the people of Texas," as if we voted for this redistricting measure, or were asked for any input on it whatsoever. These maps would weaken my electoral power as a citizen. I would have voted against it, and canvassed vigorously for my fellow Texans to do the same.

    1
  39. Funny how much Soros and now you are such bad guys, but they never mention the likes of Kochs, Leo, Singer, Heritage Foundation, ALEC, Musk, Bezos......

  40. So the MAGA Judge suffers from SDS (Soros Derangement Syndrome). I bet he would not be able to identify him in a lineup, but sounds good to the MAGA imbecile army.

Keep protecting our democracy Marc. We’re with you!

  42. Judicial demeanor is the last characteristic a Trump appointee is screened for.

    0
  43. this is straight up crazy but when you read it, it becomes insanely bonkers! that a judge would put this in writing is one of those my lord what this the world coming to moments!

    0
  44. That judge has gone round the bend, is brainwashed, has succumbed to the bizarre atmosphere of Trump/dark internet craziness. Tragic.

    0
  45. Honest question: Has this judge shown previous signs of blatant racism and/or dementia? Or is he auditioning for an administration gig? Any clue why the disproportionate response?

    0
  46. Can't you report him to the applicable judicial commission for being a looney tune?

An unsupported conspiracy theory from a federal judge? In a written opinion?? He's unfit to sit on the bench.

  48. So how do we get rid of the batshit Circuit Judge? Let's not lose sight of that, while we spend our lives watching endless litigation with the party straight out of Dante's Inferno.

  49. Clearly, it is advisable to have, in such a controversial dissent, someone hollering in the background and stomping around, scuffing up the marble floor, in a scathing version of "What goes around comes around ...".

  50. The right has lived in their echo chamber so long they believe their own lies - crap they used to say to fool the rubes is now being inserted into legal documents - what a crazy time to live - thanks for the win in Texas Marc

Is there something the law profession can do to note this and say if it is ok or not? Seems to me (not a lawyer) that reference to laws, precedent, other cases would be what is ok to use, but conspiracy theories?

  54. I’m so confused by the Soros thing. I’m sure he’s given money to liberal causes. But like, so? And why is it cool Elon does it but not Soros? They really are living on a different planet.

  55. Let Jerry sizzle on it! He’s just showing how badly the party he favors takes a loss. He knows what this means for the next election. Well done Marc and team! I look forward to the day the corrupt judges are removed from out justice system. ✌️

  58. I just read the 'dissent.' My jaw dropped. That is not a judicial opinion. It's a hissy-fit. A tantrum. An angry, childish meltdown.

    0
  59. It’s not just a dissenting opinion, it’s exposure through disclosure. Jerry boy just declared he’s a full-fledged MAGAT cult jurist, a la Clarence Thomas. He doesn’t belong on a panel of judges ruling on the facts & the law. He has officially declared he’s a political hack proselytizing a felon.

  60. this guy plus alex jones are literally the only times I ever hear the name George Soros. I don't know anything about the guy. I'm not convinced he exists

    1
  61. What the fuck are we supposed to do with these judges? They’re brainwashed MAGAts. They need to be ripped away from the bench immediately. Is there ANYTHING that can be done to this animal?

    0
  62. I started reading the dissent though I admit I didn't get too far. But I did get far enough to be able to say, with conviction, "He cray cray."

    0
  63. Read a few pages of the dissent. If you didn't know it was written by a judge to be published, you would think it was an opinion piece appearing on Breitbart or some other really scummy right wing site...

  64. Hey Marc, thank you for doing the Lord’s work. That said, keep an eye on FL duh-santis is trying this same bunch of nonsense
