  1. UPDATE: Governor Cook has issued a statement.

“President Trump purported to fire me ‘for cause’ when no cause exists under the law, and he has no authority to do so. I will not resign. I will continue to carry out my duties to help the American economy as I have been doing since 2022.”

  2. Here's a news story covering Sean's comments & the subsequent retaliation. Judge for yourself, but to me, this is our LA public transit showing how, bit by bit, institutions let fascism take hold. This is a matter of democracy, not just a job. LA Metro said the bus operator wasn’t authorized to give an interview. The driver said he was simply exercising his right to free speech by giving an interview on his day off.

  4. Earlier this year, a 17-year-old high school student named Hannah Cairo solved a 40-year-old mystery about how waves behave, surprising and exciting mathematicians. @kevinhartnett.bsky.social reports: www.quantamagazine.org/at-17-hannah...

After finding the homeschooling life confining, the teen petitioned her way into a graduate class at Berkeley, where she ended up disproving a 40-year-old conjecture.

  5. relatedly, you can really tell which pundits, consultants, and elected dems actively dislike large portions of their voting base, and tbh I think we all deserve better. I think we deserve people who think "the groups" are great and do important work

  6. I realize this is a bit of a tangent, but the headline is also misleading. 24-hour electronic monitoring with no freedom of movement (school and home only, with the girl’s “home” being a shelter) is not the same thing as “released.”

  7. First they came for the immigrants, and I did not speak out (because the message test performed at a low percentile rank compared to other messages in our testing bank for non college men who opt into online surveys through various consumer reward programs)
