Idk. Consciousness is one of those things that nobody really gets, and I mean, even the people who build these AI/bots have sometimes convinced themselves that it's the real deal.

All this suggests is that most of us are not very good at detecting consciousness in anything except other humans who are fully present to us. If we are presented with an approximation of human interaction in any one medium - such as text - some of us will believe it is evidence of a consciousness.
