There have been 99 homicides in 2025, a 12% drop compared to this time last year. Robberies and assaults with a dangerous weapon are also down by at least 20%. Volent crime is down 26% so far this year, compared to 2024. In 2024, there were 187 homicides in D.C., the lowest number since 2019.
Why is NPR framing this as a dispute between Trump and Bowser over how high the crime rate is?

When I was in DC, I saw no crime or criminals except of course 4 taco on TV. I did see dozens of fed cops standing around doing nothing while the lights on their cars flashed unnecessarily. They would surround an empty parking lot and establish a perimeter to protect nothing. Pointless intimidation
