  1. If the recommendation to Democrats was to speak plainly, casually, like a normal person having a real conversation rather than like a politician stumbling through jargon, they’d be gushing about Mamdani and telling Dems to be more like him.

But they’re not, because they really mean something else.

  2. As I say anytime anyone asks, it’s gotta be more fun to be in the movement than to not be in the movement.

In an ethnographic study of youth political organizations, one of my PhD students found that the primary driver of engagement wasn't concern about particular issues but rather the chance to do something fun together with friends (eg, make posters for rallies, or go to meetings with free food).

  3. if you're not from or have never been to new york i cannot stress enough how normal the subway is 99% of the time. kids take it to school. everyone is basically chill. you learn to be in proximity with harmless weirdos or minor irritations pretty quick. for all its issues it's an incredible thing

  4. Not only that but its like cultural heroin, slowly corrupting and addicting your mind, turning you into someone that can't argue in real life without causing a scene

    You do you, but:

One of the things we discovered in the early days of Bluesky is that quote-dunking drives toxicity.

It’s like being at a cocktail party and when someone says something you don’t like, shouting to the entire room: “HEY LISTEN TO WHAT THIS ASSHOLE JUST SAID!”

    So maybe don’t?

  5. These two things cannot both be true:

1: throwing a sandwich at a federal officer is a violent assault worthy of prosecution.

2: raiding the Capitol grounds, assaulting police offices & vandalizing federal property in an effort to interfere with an election is a harmless protest worthy of pardons.

  6. Can't really say either the org or coach has earned any benefit of the doubt. This simply looks like a bad hire from an org that can't attract better.
