In the age of monarchs, kings issued decrees. Tsars of imperial Russia proclaimed ukases. Dictators of the 20th century made diktats.
Trump issues executive orders. They make him feel powerful.
But arbitrary power depends on the acquiescence of everyone subjected to it.

Why is an American president taking election advice from a Russian dictator?
Why are you so focused on preventing Americans from voting?
You’ve been President for seven months and Putin has doubled strikes. When does this become your war?

Quite.
The main point of course is that Jenrick isn’t interested in judges being even-handed or apolitical: in fact the opposite - he’s part of a naked and orchestrated attempt to intimidate judges into making decisions which reflect his political biases.

It’s worth remembering that at one time UK membership of the EU was “enshrined in law”.
