"Renaissance polymath who formulated a model of the universe that placed the Sun rather than Earth at its center." Oh, wait that was Copernicus not me. Yes, I had to Google what polymath means. Mostly posts about global health, poverty, and philanthropy.

  1. Before money is spent to invent the next technological advancement, we ensure people have enough to spend on food. Before someone spends thousands of hours to invent the next big thing, we ensure that a baby can survive one hour of life and not perish from a medical condition in the dawn of life.

  2. People often say, " we can put a man on the moon but can't....{fill in the blank}". Can't build enough homes using more primitive technology like a hammer. Should we have hired inventors first to solve a basic issue then do something else?

  3. Amazing inventions, but we still have people hungry or in poverty. We did not agree that before the next great invention like a rocket. we would solve an issue like ensuring no child suffers. Invented a radio that can broadcast news of basic things we have not stopped like curable diseases.

  4. "Is progress really Wi-Fi on every street corner? No. It’s when no 13-year-old girl on the planet gets sold for sex" This was written by Peter Buffett in a New York Times article. It has made me think about how we did not get the basics right. www.britannica.com/story/histor...

  5. "Our tolerance for poverty is very high, much higher than it is in other parts of the developed world." and "we have all these anti-poverty programs that accommodate poverty without disrupting it." Those two points might explain why we have poverty. We tolerate it, and the programs don't end it.

  6. I get actions of people including the rich can hurt the poor, like laying off people, not increasing the minimum wage, etc. He made a good point about corporate homeowners not just benefiting from high prices, but many homeowners. So, many of us are benefiting from this system, and can be blamed.

  7. The war against poverty has not been won by the poor, but I'm hesitant to blame the rich. I think there is already enough groups getting vilified for different things. Plus, if people just blame the rich that's not much of a solution.
