one thing to remember about "ICE is going to occupy Democrat strongholds" is that ICE, if it hires to capacity, will employ about 26k people by the end of 2026, which is 1/3 smaller than the NYPD, which is not a large enough police force to occupy New York City itself.

  1. ICE is supplemented by other federal law enforcement in addition to state and local law enforcement. they can also turn to deputizing civilians such as bounty hunters and military contractors.

they only truly need to secure influence over the election administration in a handful of counties

  2. the plan is to put ICE in explicitly dangerous situations which will escalate and justify a national guard crackdown - who will be shipped in from red states, I think. not actually have ICE implementing martial law.

  4. I live in a Kansas county where little old poll volunteer ladies will sometimes try to hassle Democratic voters, the county recently "accidentally" locked drop boxes for ballots to suppress voting, and our county still goes blue almost every election, it's not that easy to suppress an entire country

  5. And a lot of that 26K will be like Dean Cain, who I suspect is not quite qualified to chase down say, a 23-year-old who just hiked the Darien Gap.

That said, setting a few key examples of violence may have a major dampening effect.

  6. And that is assuming if they hire to capacity, they recruit good people and do the right type of training. I see nothing as of yet that indicates that is what they are doing. Even if you assume they do all the recruitment and training properly, they still have to retain all these people. Big lift.

  7. It’s not about controlling cities. They just want to shoot libs in the streets. He wanted to do it last time & the army wouldn’t play along. They’re trying to create the conditions to get another chance.

  8. The other thing is that ICE won’t hire to capacity. It was a terrible job to sell people on during the first Trump administration, and it’s worse now. Good teamwork on that front, folks. :)

  9. Not trying to be a doomer but I find it difficult to be comforted by this without some sense of who the hypothetical opposing force would be. Marshaling forces to launch an autogolpe is a big lift. Marshaling forces to oppose one might be a bigger lift.

  10. The thing to remember there is that there will be a massive increase in harassment of immigrants and basically no impact on anyone else.

  11. they're intentionally going for outlandish spectacles and masked men in grey vans for the same reason cartels do extremely gruesome murders: they can't actually enforce efficiently

  12. I think the psychological aspect to secret police is more important. The Savak under the Shah of Iran was very small but people were scared to talk to their neighbors for fear of them being secret police. They are everywhere and nowhere and we just gave them $50 billion for psychological warfare.

  13. I like the solid point. It does make sense. But it assumes the same level of equipment, enforcement, enthusiasm, and what orders they are given, as well as how much new recruits - which they are - would follow orders…

A few hundred at the top, to plan and direct at every level; a few thousand to

  15. Your math is right, but I think 'ICE' is now just short-hand for 'federal agent thugs'-- national guard, DHS, other federal agents; plus local law enforcement. It's a bigger number than the 26,000.
