2/ The walnuts begin to drop from the branches when fully ripened, and some of them are heavy enough to knock a small woman or teen cyclist off their bike, if the falling walnut strikes them on the head when they are not wearing a helmet. I've seen it happen more than once. 😬🤦♂️

1/ The Girlfriend™ and I often bicycle on weekends on a Rails-to-Trails path near-ish to our home. There are old walnut trees on both sides of the path, every few hundred yards for many miles, and at the end of the summer the ripe walnuts will be large and encased in a thick, green vegetative husk.
