"LET'S PLAY THE RECORD"
This song should be engraved on everybody's heart, celebrated as a pop standard. It isn't, and that's not right.

Part of my hour long compilation I used to use to wake myself up with on weekday mornings. Yes by McAlmont and Butler, Black Book by Blur, She's My Baby by The Wilburys, If It Makes You Happy by Sheryl Crow, then into this. Unstoppable, brilliant pop.

Leafing through this fascinating wee paperback a while ago and at the back there's a sample schedule for the 1968-69 US season. Just look at that annihilating Monday night. Poor, poor Avengers. Star Trek parked in the Friday night 10pm graveyard slot. All up for them as well, pretty much.
You always remember where you were when the moon Broke Away. On that day in 1999 I was in a pub at a Doctor Who local group meeting. We piled outside to wave goodbye to the moon, much to the bemusement of the regulars. Poor Moonbase Alpha. I presume they're out of coffee by now.
We don't get owls where we are, and I really wish we did - I'd love to hear one out there. On the other hand, I frequently the noises made by two foxes when they're cheerily engaged in constructing another fox, so I do get noises out there...
I occasionally muse about what we've lost in not having shows that have one of those themes that bring other people running into the room when it comes on. You know, you're arsing about elsewhere, you hear the opening notes of the theme and you're in front of the telly before it's finished.
Was it the first rich-bastard-soap opera, or where there others before that? I mean, it feels like the first one to go properly HUGE and really lean into it. Everyone in it's larger than life. Nothing mundane here and all the better for it.
A title sequence that comes with a built-in fanfare. More TV shows SHOULD. I mean,
"PA-PAH, PA-PAH. PA-PAH PA-PAH-PAH-PAH"
You're on board from the get-go, aren't you?
Just discovered the existence of Yächtley Crëw. My admiration for their combining the best of bother ridiculous hair metal and Yacht Rock and really leaning into it knows no bounds.
"Rainy Taxi", by Porcupine Tree. Sounds so much like a Rick Wright Floyd instrumental from somewhere around "More" or "Meddle". Since I love Rick Wright to absolute bits, I'm very happy with that. Those chord changeups are so him. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiBK...
